Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke is apparently unfazed by the WB/New Line announcement that it is developing additional Lord of the Rings movies. Speaking to Variety, Salke was asked how much LOTR would be too much to support the market, and she said, “We’ll see.”
Salke believes that the Lord of the Rings fandom is large enough to support several different projects at the same time. “We love our original series. We are extremely proud of her and invest for the long term. So we definitely think there is enough fan love to sustain ours for a long time,” he said.
The Rings of Power is currently in production for season 2. Getting the show off the ground was one of Salke’s biggest accomplishments as head of Amazon Studios. As has been widely discussed, The Rings of Power is an extremely expensive production. As such, much has been made of its market success thus far, which included reaching 100 million people early on.
Another Amazon Studios boss, Vernon Sanders, has previously said that Amazon’s investment in The Rings of Power has already “paid off.” Amazon is planning five seasons of The Rings of Power, and key creatives have them all planned out so far, including the latest shot.
As for the new WB/New Line Lord of the Rings movies, it’s still very early days, but executives have said that these movies, whatever they are, won’t be remakes or retreads that Peter Jackson movies already covered. . Trilogies The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
A key difference between The Rings of Power and the new WB/New Line movies is that Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, the Oscar-winning trio behind the Lord of the Rings movies, have been informed and are in talks with WB/New Line about the new projects. They were left out of involvement with The Rings of Power.
“For all the scope and detail lovingly packed into the two trilogies, the vast, complex and dazzling universe dreamed up by JRR Tolkien remains largely unexplored in the film. The opportunity to invite fans deeper into the cinematic world of Middle-earth is an honor”. and we’re excited to partner with Middle-earth Enterprises and Embracer on this venture,” said WB.
A Lord of the Rings movie from Warner Bros. and New Line is already in production. The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim is an animated film about one of the legendary kings of Rohan, and is set 183 before the events of the original films, with Brian Cox and Mirando Otto as voice actors.
When Embracer acquired the film rights, it pitched films about Gandalf, Aragorn, Galadriel and Eowyn as possible future projects.
As for the Lord of the Rings video game series, there are five new games coming out in the next two years, including The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Return to Moria, Heroes of Middle-earth, and more.
